Creative Teaching Cases – A Collection that Inspires

This collection reflects the proposals, experiences, and reflections of the inaugural cohort of the ACT Grant recipients, from a wide range of disciplines and approaches.

On January 22, 2018, nine faculty members from diverse disciplines at James Madison University (JMU) were awarded Accelerating Creative Teaching (ACT) Grants. This grant is sponsored by JMU Libraries. The initiative provides opportunities to encourage innovations in teaching and share instructors’ creativity in engaging student learning through the use of technology. Projects have been selected based on a blind review of proposals by faculty members from multiple discipline areas and represent the development of deep, meaningful, and reflective learning in students.   Most projects were implemented during the Spring 2018 semester.

Elizabeth Herron, Julie Strunk, and Nancy Puffenbarger, School of Nursing, Engagement with Community Partners to Promote and Enhance the Transition of Evidence-based Nursing from the Classroom to Clinical Practice

Yeonsoo Kim, School of Communication Studies, Launching a Student-Run PR Firm as a Part of a Public Relations Course

Laura Lambert, ISAT, Improving Student Engagement with a Flipped Blended Classroom

Thomas Moran, Kinesiology, Online, Interactive, and Creative – Training Adapted Physical Activity/Education Professionals to Meet the Needs of Individuals with Disabilities

Xuebin Wei, ISAT, Creating and Printing 3D Models with LiDAR Data

The editors hope that this collection offers inspiration to educators and curriculum and instruction developers interested in innovative and collaborative approaches to meaningful teaching and learning.
